With its weather almost always like the Western spring, those who prefer the tropical climates are perfect candidates for securing a home in Malaysia. There are resorts and highland residential areas with warm and breezy weathers suited for those who have had enough of the chill of snow. The country is always up-to-date with their developments in property and infrastructure with modern roads, railways and air and sea transportation systems which will render commuting a breeze. Efficient and affordable trains, taxis, buses, and other public transportations are manned by friendly operators who can show you around the city.

As a result, many U.K. retirees are moving to Malaysia under the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program. This group, together with the growing expat community, are driving up the prices of condominiums in KL’s city center and Penang. Today, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a decent apartment close to the city for under RM300,000.

While the locals lament the sky-rocketing prices are stretching home loans to two generations, Malaysia property developers definitely aren’t complaining. The recently launched Surian Residences at Mutiara Damansara, which starts at RM510,000 for a 800 sq ft unit, received such an overwhelming response that all the apartments were sold out in one day (a limited number of Bumiputra units are still available though). Infact, there were so many buyers that the developer had to conduct balloting to decide who gets to buy!
