ABOUT 1,500 Japanese retirees have opted for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme and the number is expected to rise by 10 per cent this year as they favour its attractive options, said Japanese ambassador to Malaysia Masahiko Horie.

Promoted by the Tourism Ministry, the programme also allows foreigners who fulfill certain criteria to stay here on a multiple-entry social visit pass.

Horie said about 400,000 Japanese came to Malaysia last year of whom 40 per cent were tourists. Places they found attractive include Langkawi, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Kota Kinabalu and the east coast of the peninsula.
